College Visit Reflections: The Future is Bright

Reflecting on a recent college visit with my daughter, a high school senior, fills me with optimism. While I won’t name the specific schools we have visited, each program left a lasting impression. My daughter now faces the delightful challenge of choosing from countless exceptional opportunities.

One of the most striking aspects of our visits has been the dramatic improvements in campus facilities over the past decades. I vividly recall my college dorm experience — three of us crammed into a tiny “economy triple” room. Today’s students enjoy spacious, well-equipped dorms and have access to remarkable resources and state-of-the-art facilities, no matter which campus we visit.

Equally impressive is how well my daughter’s high school experiences have prepared her for this next chapter. The educational opportunities she received have been nothing short of spectacular, equipping her with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in college.

Having spent decades in public education, including roles as a principal and superintendent, I’ve always cherished commencement day. Students’ achievements never fail to inspire me. My recent college visits reignited that same optimism, dispelling lingering “these kids today” sentiments.

Despite the undeniable reality of rising college costs, I am heartened by the quality of education and opportunities available to today’s students. The future is bright, and society has much to look forward to with a promising new generation of leaders.
